Turner Auto Care in the Community
We love advocating for our community! There are so many amazing organizations that we can and have worked with over the years. At this time we’re highlighting two that mean a lot to us personally and would love for you to learn more about them and even consider supporting them as well.
GRASP - Greece Residents Assisting Stray Pets
What’s most interesting is that GRASP is really not limited to helping animals in just Greece. They are an animal rescue that is based out of Greece but works with many people and helps animals from many different areas in the Rochester region.
Animal rescue has been part our world for approximately 15 years. We have volunteered as a foster home for animals moving through rescue and ultimately adopted all of our animals through rescue. We were introduced to GRASP a few years ago by a dear friend who has volunteered with them for years as a foster home, mainly for cats and kittens. Every once in a while she would foster a dog or puppy and in May 2019 she had kittens and one cutie little puppy. We had lost our 12 year old yellow lab/golden retriever, Emmett, and were looking for a new addition for our family. If you head over to our Meet the Team page you can see Moose, who we adopted through GRASP. He was only 7 weeks old and had been rescued from a “back yard breeder” in the city of Rochester. He is now living a very spoiled and snuggly life with us. Although our 10 year old black lab, Daisy, is still skeptical of whether she wants a little brother now that he’s not so little and tries his hardest to get her to play.
Our experiences with GRASP, through our friend and her volunteering and then through adopting with them ourselves, has been one of the best experiences we’ve had in rescue. They are so committed to these animals and also to the foster families and adopters so that both animals and people are set up for success when they bring a new fur family member home.
While we would love to foster again, we aren’t in a position to do so. Our way of giving back right now is by volunteering our time and our voice. Please take a moment to click on the link above and learn about this amazing organization. If you’d like to support them they have many different ways that you can do so. Check out the “Support” and/or “Donate” links at the top of their website. You are also free to drop donations off at our location and we will ensure they are delivered to GRASP.
You can also follow them on FaceBook and Instagram.
Making Spirits Bright & The Goodness Initiative
Making Spirits Bright and The Goodness Initiative are absolutely amazing. We met the founder, Jamie Buss, through Girl Scouts when our girls were itty bitty Brownies together! Jamie is a born giver and has built one of the most beautiful giving organizations we’ve ever seen. She started MSB in 2014 with the goal of gift giving for families in need during the holiday season. They helped 13 families that first year and have grown so much that they helped 75 families during the 2021 holiday season! Jamie has expanded her reach, along with another amazing woman Colleen Bedford, and they were approved as a non-profit organization under the name The Goodness Initiative. While the two organizations overlap, Making Spirits Bright’s focus is on families in need during the holidays and The Goodness Initiative’s focus is on year round giving by stocking local community food/sundry stands and leading youth driven volunteer endeavors.
Every holiday season we adopt a family in need. Our ask is that you consider helping our adoptive family or consider adopting your own or even contributing to their community list of needs. Information for this program will be shared each holiday season.
All year round we are a drop spot for any donations for the food/sundry stands. Here is a general list of stand needs:
- Laundry soap
- Dish soap
- Hand soap
- Toilet cleaner
- Scrub sponges
- Toothbrushes
- Women’s deodorant
- Men’s deodorant
- Shampoo/Conditioner
- All-Purpose cleaner
- Feminine hygiene products
- Paper towel/Toilet paper
- Canned goods
- Boxed goods
